I looked up the harbor freight staplers. They're cheap and good. That said, they've doubled in price since I last bought one. I've been through a bunch, and I went to a hitachi 18g stapler several years ago. It's worth the higher price, IMO.
Also you guys must have a reason for the jar feeders. Old tradition? I use zip lock bags when I feed. Of course, I don't have the cold weather issues, but otherwise, ziplocs work for me.

when meshing the jar off from the hive are the bees able to get to the syrup, I presume yes.
never used mesh to feed.

 

Bees will completely propolize the mesh once the jar is removed. I pull it off with pliers when I’m ready to feed again and replace it with a fresh (unpropolized) piece. The advantage of this is that - when I remove the jar to refill it - the bees can’t fly out. No bee ever drowns😍

I duct taped this piece but ‘stapling’ is easier to remove.

We use #8 in a 10’ roll from Amazon since it’s hard to find in the hardware stores. It’s the same gauge we use for the screened bottom boards. Bees can’t pass through it.

Is that the 1/2 gallon? I use that size often

I use that size mostly. It provides a useful volume👍

 

I use no mesh, just holes to fit the lids.
