It Looks Like Bees Love Rosemary!

I decided to plant a hedge of rosemary near my bee yard today, with very interesting results. I simply took a lot of cuttings from a bush I have and put them into the ground in a bed that is 4'x30'. As part of the process I stripped the cuttings, which released the familiar smell of rosemary.

Before I was even done the bees were all over the cuttings, apparently looking for flowers. If this is any indication, when the hedge grows and blooms it should be amazing.

I have a lot of marginal land which is slowly being taken over by wild thyme and rosemary as I have neither the mechanical means nor the time to cultivate it. My intention is to help the process and replace the weeds with rows of rosemary and russian sage so I've got about a thousand rosemary cuttings on the go and I keep adding more as and when the established plants produce them.

I tried planting them directly in the soil but had a very high failure rate even when using rooting powder. Since I've started using cuttings trays I'm losing less than 5% of cuttings. Once the compost is full of roots, I plant them in spring in rows in a sheltered field with irrigation to allow them to adapt to the poor soil and come autumn I plant them in their final destination.
