is this lizard dining on the bees?

Lazy lizard is hanging around the beehives this summer. Anyone have any idea if this fat guy could be dining on the bees? When I find him out there, he just watches me unless I get too close, then he runs off, so I have not been able to observe him eating any bees, but if he is dining on my live bees, I am going to have to figure out how to get rid of him.

He might be eating a bee or two. But then he might be eating a wax moth or hive beetle of two. Even an ant or two for dessert. The point is, just leave him alone and watch his antics. The bee or two he does eat will not cause a colony collapse. TED

Fence lizards...they're taking over at my house. We have an open-air garage on the back of the house that they've invaded it. You wouldn't think that lizard poop would be much of a bother....wrong!!! Stepping out onto the back stoop and there's 2 or 3 piles...grrrrrr. Matter of fact, I killed a 2-foot timber rattler in the garage a few weeks ago, I figure it was probably hunting lizards. They all see well fed and somewhat fearless. It's interesting that once we became "catless" for the first time in 20 years the lizards and snakes started moving in...makes sense. I figure they eat plenty of bugs and if they get a bee or three it's no big problem.

I agree that the hive-lizard appears to be a skink...we have lots of 5-lined skinks along with the fence lizards...they're healthy, too.

I have a couple that live on my hives as well, but not the brown skinks... I have not seen them take a bee, and really don't think the ones that I have are. I have a couple of brown skinks around here about the length of your foot, that I wouldn't want on my hives, but these little green lizards living on my hives are neat to watch.
