Icing

My wife worked in a bakery and would bring home empty buckets with some icing left in them.I put them out for the bees to clean up and they wouldn!t touch them?Makes me wonder if I should eat donuts and rolls if the bees won!t?:no:

 

Grease patties are fed for mite control. As for what ever the other ingredients are in the icing I would be hesitant at best about giving it to the bees?

 

If it's true butter cream icing then it is butter and sugar (says the man who makes his own icing). I have no idea what butter does to/for bees.

 

Sounds like an experiment is needed...

 

This is a crazy idea, but could you use buttercream icing to feed?

Skip the butter, and just feed the fondant that is used to make it.

 

Are bees able to properly digest the fats in butter? Thouhgt i had read somewhere they weren't :scratch:

 

Butter is animal fat, dairy fat, shortening is vegitable fat, big difference there. I don't think I'd be feeding my girls any animal fat myself.
