Hi, I am a new part-time beekeeper. I don't have my own hive but have been caring for hives at a local university over the summer, while the campus was empty.
I found this bee on the lid of her hive, unable to fly but behaving like a healthy bee otherwise. I did not notice her black thorax until I edited these pictures. The inside lids have both been littered with thoraxes the last few times I have opened them, and after seeing this picture I wondered if maybe ants had eaten them but left the thoraxes?
Thank you for any suggestions.
