Harry, since Apopka rarely sees temps dip below 32 degrees, 1/2" would be fine. I assume you are making something like the D Coates nucs to grow your apiary inexpensively.

I am in South Arkansas and do it with no problem,We get into the High teens every now and then and it has not affected the nucs in the 1/2 inch boxes.

Thanks guys. Correct JW, I wasn't familiar with the name but those are the ones I'm considering. I have an ancient one I got from a friend I've been using to set frames in while inspecting. They work great for that purpose as well.

I overwintered 1/2" plywood nucs in Ontario, with no additional insulation, so it should be fine in your conditions.
