I found two darker colored honey bees (maybe Carniolans) clinging to a chute of dead Salvia in my backyard. I planted one on a living flower (I know, don't disturb nature, but I was curious) and it returned right back to a dead one.

Isn't it too small for a honey bee? I can't really judge size, but that looks like a solitary bee, not a honey bee and most of those are 1/2 the length of a honey bee.

Wow, thanks I didn't even think of that! I believe they are solitary bees. I don't know much about them, is there a reason they'd act this way?

They are gathering pollen from the dead flowers.
