I live in S.E. Michigan and my hives have been busy. I live in close proximity to a number of large fallow fields of white & yellow sweet clover and mowed fields of Dutch clover with unusually intense blooms this year. In walking these areas this past sunny week, I am hard pressed to find more than a random honey bee or 2. Plenty of bumble bees though. In years past, the fields were buzzing. What is up?

I have seen that bees will work clover in earnest when the spring flow comes to an end. Here, that started to happen during the last week. I now see bees on the clover regularly. Before that time, hardly at all.

Just got back from Grand Island Nebraska and saw more yellow clover than you could imagine. Being outdoors all day around this clover I saw a total of 2 honeybees.

absolutely blew my mind.
