I know very little .... just know what I have learned in the beekeeping classes and what is on here. It seems to me this is one of those hobbies that is difficult to learn from a book! Yes, it is just a hobby for me. I had two hives. Unfortunately one did not make it over the winter. How do I know if I can split the other hive? I would love to have two hives going. I know this is a very basic question and I probably should know the answer. I just feel overwhelmed and unsure!

Yes, I only have one hive with bees and one hive without. How do I know if it is strong enough to split? I would love them to raise their own queen. They are small cell bees. I let them make their own comb. I do have some comb that has been drawn out by the hive that did not make it.

Thanks for trying to help me with this question.
