when is it to late to buy nucs. I dont want any huney fom them this year. just like them to be strong for the winter. thank you

wax bucket,
I would say that you can purchase nucs as long as they are available and about a month before the temps fall below 50 degrees F. My thinking is that you would have to feed them to get the minimum winter stores before the temp falls below 50 and they stop taking the feed.

I'd say July, but you may have to feed them steadily to get them up to critical mass for overwintering.

I agree with July. I'm going to split my 2 deeps then after pulling supers and watch to ensure they either get enough from later summer flow or feed.
