I got my first hive Sat. I should have gotten two so I could compare them. I am worried about how they are just for the most part hanging around, very few foragers compared to the number just sitting on the inside of the hive (i have a window). lots of hovering. They are sucking down the sugar water, though.

I don't know what is normal since I am new, but I am afraid that maybe something happened to the queen during installation. She was not on any of the nuc frames, but was found sitting in the corner of the nuc box with her attendants. We scooped her up and put her on top of the frames and then dumped the rest in.

They were so much more active and lively the first day than the second day.
When should I check on them again? I know I need to let them settle in and get comfortable, but if something did happen to the queen I need to know ASAP right?

When is it ok to start looking and how often do you normally do that?

What does the person who you bought them from say? Can you go to them for advice? And maybe to see other hives and what they are doing? What kind of instruction did you get w/ your new hive?
