Can't wait for this cold to be over. My first winter, only 1 hive. They were really strong going into winter, hope they make it?!!
What is your strategy for wintering? Besides watching out for falling trees!!! 馃槺

jonny,
started winter with a candy board as inner cover, 1 inch of styrofoam and then the top. (most migratory and a few telescoping ) will probably look at them next week weather permiting.

I also have the 1" styrofoam wedged in an 1 1/2" spacer which sits on top of the inner cover, then a telescoping cover. I "planned" to put something in the space created there to absorb the condensation. I also put pennies as spacers in between the inner cover and the hive body for ventilation. Then wrapped hive in tar paper. Kind of a medley of things I had read from other beekeepers.
I am most concerned about the condensation. I hope I can look in soon.
