I just installed a package and have never seen the next day orientation flight. Anyone know what time I need to be there to catch it?

My hive last year would orient any time it could see a patch of clear sky or even better sun. The package I installed Saturday started to orient right away and as soon as light hit the roof on Sunday morning.

Mine do the orientation flights near the warmest part of the day in the afternoon.

Mine like the afternoon here in South Carolina. First time I saw it I thought my bees were swarming, they were pouring out of the hive.

Mine are usually orient in the early afternoon as well..... Around 2PM or so.....

10 to 11 a.m. it's as good a guess as any:) Actually it is a bit more than that. swarms typically issue somewhere in that time period. I tend to find orientation flights will also. I also see them about 3 to 3:00 each afternoon. once you do find them flying they will tend to do it at about the same time each day. It is interesting to see all 21 hives making flights at once. I don't know what triggers it but it sure is consistent. At times I think it is started by the bees finding a nectar source. at others I think it is temperature.

I typically see mine orient in the early afternoon.

my hives vary. Some are early morning, some are afternooners. I would say afternoon is more common for the big orientation flight time period (2-3).

so the answer to the ? what time do the bees take their
orientation /play flight is. any time they feel like it. there is no set time

A new package will orient as soon as it's daylight and warm enough to fly. None of them knows where they live yet and they have to figure it out. Young bees usually orient in the afternoon.
