What nectar gives off a hay or straw smell?

981 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Hokie Bee Daddy
My bees have started collecting something. They are coming in heavy and are fanning at night like they are drying nectar. The smell coming from the hive is like hay or straw. Does anyone know what flower that smell may be coming from?

The only thing I can see blooming here are Bradford Pears and I've heard they get zero nectar or pollen from these.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

I'm thinking that u r probably smelling the pollen, not the nectar. Just a feeling.
Thanks Mark. I didn't think of that but it makes sense. They are bringing in a lot of pollen.
