Easter Swarm...had a swarm in my outyard today. Went to check my hives after dinner and the air was full of bees. They settled about 8 feet up in a spruce tree, cut the limb and laid on a sheet in front of a 5 frame nuc. All were inside within an hour or so.

Second swarm of the year in my outyard at about 3:00 pm. Queen couldn't fly and the 2# swarm ended up at the base of a chain-link fence post behind the hive. Would have been fairly easy had half the swarm and the queen not been under a piece of mine conveyor belt that is under the hives. First swarm that I've captured while laying on my side...better than 20 feet up a tree though! Finally found the queen and installed her in a 5-frame nuc with the swarm. Made up 7 splits from this yard on 4/14/12...hope I am ahead of them for a change.
First swarm for us this year. In my daughter's backyard in the middle of town in Marietta, OH. It was soccer ball sized (maybe 6lbs). The weather was 57 degrees, misty rain off/on all day with a little wind. It was in a mulberry tree approximately 8 to 9 ft off the ground.
Got a call early this morning about a basketball sized swarm located on a split rail fence in a neighborhood about 5 miles away. I wasn't able to go look at it until after work so my wife volunteered to go catch it for me!
