are waxed waxed cardboard nucs suitable for overwintering? i wasn't sure about their insulating properties.

I would not trust them to hold up to 3 months of winter weather... and wouldn't think they'd insulate much at all.

i kinda had the same thoughts. i'm making some now, but for the time i'll have in them the cardboard look pretty cheap.

They're nice as swarm traps and last about 3 years if you bring them in after the season. Overwintering though?, not on a bet.

I bought some waxed cardboard ones this spring, and they are already melted trash.. to much rain, I wouldn't even try to overwinter them.

No way I would. My Nucs came in them and I don't think theyd hold up very good...

i bought some this spring for splits and bait traps, their actually holding up well considering all the rain we've had. D Coates i'm building some now based off the plans you posted, i think i'll make some screen bottom and some solid bottom. i've never overwintered a nuc before, my plan is to try 3-5 and see how it goes. any advice is appreciated.
