With a bowl of water and a birdbath right close to the hive, the bees have chosen . . . the water on the pool cover. Which probably means they're going to use the pool (and I don't mean for swimming) once we open it this summer, right? I guess the good news is that it's my pool and not my neighbor's.

Speaking of neighbors, my immediate neighbor to the east was thrilled about the bees--he grows raspberries and grapes. For Christmas I look forward to exchanging honey and raspberry jelly.

one thing to remember is that bees dont have a dance to show others where there is water or feed within 20 feet or so of the hive --

if you want to serve water to the bees - place a feeder with sugar water in it - say 1:1 then after its gone at 1:2 or so just lessen the sugar amount until its just water - then they know where its at - but place it about 50+ feet from the hive

hope this helps
