Today I finally found the queen. I have had nothing but trouble trying to spot them. I actually sat down in a chair and went thru frame after frame slowly until I spotted her. Also spotted some drones, found eggs, and a few small hive beetles which I crushed. Lots of brood, capped and uncapped, larvae, pollen, and honey. I feel much better now that I spotted my first queen. It was fun.

Congrats! Seeing the old girl does make you feel good. :) I learn something, because the bees teach me, every time I crack open a hive.

Once you get enough hives you won't even bother looking for the queen until you are making up splits or cell builders. When I do normal inspections I look for the different stages of brood and eggs. If I see those then you can assume all is well.
