Does anyone have (or can direct me) to photos of the various races of honey bees here in the U.S.?
Also, which are considered the gentlest/most aggressive? I know about the Africanized bees.

Thanks,
Dave

The above referenced pages deal with various flavors of honey bees (Apis mellifera). There are many species of bees native to the US with different sources give different total numbers ranging from 2000-5000 (3500 is a nice number I have seen often) and somewhere around 20,000 world wide. Most of them live on pollen and nectar, but vary few of these store honey as well as the honey bees used in apiculture.

The following page has a few bee types and description of their life styles (listed off to the left of the page).

This page has a few others that you may run across.

I know this is off the bee keeping topic, but it is interesting that the little honey bee is just one part of the much larger family of bees that are out there.
