Maybe too early, and not enough coffee yet, but random idea: I have a deep's worth of capped frames of feed, some are syrup, some honey, from last year, that are stored in freezer as back up for this coming winter, making summer nucs, etc. What if one were to put those frames in the hives to encourage or "force" the bees to put incoming nectar above the brood nest in a super? Right now, they're both putting some above the brood nest, and filling outer brood frames (like 2,3 and 7,8, as 1,9 and 10 are still full) as they work toward the center of the body. I don't want to encourage them to chimney the brood nest anymore than they seem to naturally.
