I have two top bar hives that are about 2'-3' apart. After getting a high mite count via alcohol wash on one hive, I treated it with Apivar. I did not have time to check the other colony (which is a June split, if that matters), but wonder if I should "assume" i need to treat it given drift, etc.?

Thanks for any thoughts.

i would assume you split if off the other hive? treat it, not that expensive.

I would also treat both hives. If one has mites both do.

The split without the queen may have a lower mite count due to having a brood break, but it likely still has some mites.

I would treat both. That short a brood break will only set the mites back a few weeks.
