I am finishing my first top bar hive and I'm planning on having a screened bottom above my solid bottom. Can I use a regular window screen or are the holes too small for the mites? Otherwise, is 1/8" hardware cloth too large of holes?

Most beeks use 1/8 hardware cloth, known as #8 hardware cloth, amazon has a good price, otherwise it's kind of hard to find in small rolls.

Yes, 1/4 inch is too big. I actually use it on the front of my hive as a mouseguard in the winter. Bees get through it just fine.
