Hi Everyone, I am happy to announce 2 of my 3 hives made it through the winter. Last Sept I provided them plenty of syrup along with a fondant type candy that I made and placed in the rear of the hive. They did eat some of the candy over the winter, but I was thinking that placing the candy in rear of the hive is pretty ineffective when they are clustered together.

I was wondering if anyone has thought of or tried making the fondant / candy about 1/8" or 3/16" thick, cutting it into strips (while its still warm) about 2" wide, and 10" long and placing a couple of these strips between each comb to provide additional food for your bees over the winter?

I am not sure if bees would eat the candy if they have honey right next to it. If anyone has any thoughts on this please reply.
