It's in the critical period when colonies can starve waiting on nectar. If my bees are building some comb and I'm not feeding them syrup, can I assume they have enough stores and are finding some nectar? I don't want to hassle with stored syrup.

How much stores do they have? Once they have a few frames of stores, I do not feed. Since bees generally only build new comb when there is a flow, you are probably OK. However, you really need to know how much honey they have in reserve.

I was thinking I should check their stores. No, I appreciate the advice, I'll check 'em out.
