Hi, everyone,

this goes out to other folks tracking hive weights. I just had a jump of 12.7# in my largest hive, over the past ten days. It had been averaging the same weight since January. the beginning of the flow? I always call things too early, but maybe I got it right this time??

I would suspect either the start of a flow or they are robbing out a dead hive somewhere. If you have stuff blooming I would suspect the start of a flow.

This is what I have seen on one of my hives
hive weight thru fall 2019.jpg

edit: during a strong flow with a big hive I have seen gains of over 10lb/week.

Oops I phrased that incorrectly. I meant to say, my area is blooming earlier than usual! I don't think it is a dead out.

12.7 over 10 days is not robbing. I've had my hive on a scale get into a robbing frenzy once, they did 12 pounds in 2 hours.
