Syrup gone hard in the tote

3007 Views 10 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  EastSideBuzz
We left about 8" of syrup in our tote and did not thin it with water. It is now hard. Any suggestions on how to get it liquid again? We have about a 6" opening in top to work with.

Thanks

Hot water heater element should do the trick. Never tried it myself but have been told.
I agree you should be able to lower a drop light into your ibc and put the lid on loosely. A 100w bulb should heat it up in no time
You could use a shielded immersion heater to liquify the syrup. Mann Lake carries one that is 1000 watts. It's worked for me heating water for making feed.
We are going to try the 100 watt light bulb in the tank.
Immersion heater is what I use each year. Bulb does not work very fast due to loss of heat on the sides. I also have put in hot water. picked up the tote with the front end loader and shaked the crap out of it. It was the biggest mixer I have ever used. I am thinking of doing Margaretta's at the next party that way.

I use the immersion bucket heater also. I have a 6' long 3/8" pipe with a quickcoupler on the end that I hook to my airhose and agitate every few hours to speed things up.

How much water would have prevented it from going hard?

I do 10% and it still thickens. So not sure. I typically move what is left in the tote into 55 gallon drums so I can strap heat it easier.
