Swarm Trap, partial success, need advice

1711 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  odfrank
I caught my first swarm 2 days ago thursday. That was pretty cool. My question is this. Look at the attached img. maybe 1/2 of the bees never went into the box. What is going on? Is that where the queen is? How do I get them to move in? Do I need to intervene or give them some time. You can see in the image, that I slightly opened the top to make move-in easier, but no luck so far.

Are they right on the entrance? That could be the whole swarm just sitting on the box too or maybe the box wasn't big enough.

Opening on the right side towards the bottom? If so.... looks like they missed. lol

About 2/3 did move in. Box is big enough. Do I just push the issues and force them into the box?
Unmated virgin queen? I had a swarm like that last week that would not move into a box with the entrance touching the bees. It was going to rain for three days so I vac'd it in.
