Ok I have a friend who has bees between the liner and chimney in their house I am going to see it tomorrow but was wondering about some ideas. Last year someone tried trapping them out with no luck and we are wanting to do it with possibly no demo I was wondering about setting up a trap and maybe trying to push them I out using like a fume board approach. Any ideas are welcome in the box or out of the box but I would love the free bees

I'm thinking if you use a fume board approach, you may just oust them alltogether. You mentioned a trapout with no success. The only thing left is....
1. Leave them be or
2. Demo and removal.

Don't trap. Tell your friend to bite the bullet and do a demo. Even if the trap-out is successful he will still need to do a demo to remove the comb, honey and unhatched brood or learn to deal with the rotten smell. Believe me it stinks.

If you do a proper trap out the only thing left will be empty combs.

Where is there entrance? in the side of the brick or down the liner.
If down the liner, then it means the chimney need repairs anyway, demo.

Ok thanks I will find out all the entrance details tomorrow and I have been reading about Hogan trap and may try and do that the guy last year just set up a swarm trap hoping they would swarm

Chimneys are a nightmare for live removals! Once they tell me a chimney is involved, I decline the job. If the bees have been there over a year already, truly...good luck! Let us know what you see tomorrow!

Just to clarify terminology, I would not call an established colony, no matter where it is, a swarm. It WAS a swarm, but now it's a wild colony in a chimney...
