Is the screen to keep the bees in the box? If you have access a frame of brood, The brood will keep them there. I guess I can't really answer Because I am not sure what the screen is for. Also if you hive them just before dark they will stay.

I put the screen on to transport them home.

If you have them home I would think you can remove the screen, you don't want them to over heat.
Not sure if you added brood or not but a frame of brood does wonders to keep them home.

Use a queen excluder-put it between the bottom board and your hive remove it after a couple of days. This is the only use I've found for a 'excluder' making it a includer.
Drawn comb help if you have any, place it in the center postions.
I've found if after a day or two they are all over the comb and not balled up in one place, they are more than likely gonna stay.
