Super full of brood?

I was looking in one of my hives yesterday and the food super was full of brood and eggs. Probably about 8 frames. The brood box with 10 frames had very little brood or eggs. It had a little honey and pollen on a few frames. There are 10 frames in the brood box but only 8 are drawn out. 2 still have the foundation on them. Most of the 8 frames in the brood box are polished looking like for the queen to lay. What should I do to get the queen down in the brood box? Should I leave the 1 year old foundation in hoping they will draw it out or replace it with new? This seems to be a very good laying queen. I run 1 brood box and one super until the flow. Thanks.

If that hive were mine and the "brood box" you are referring to is a deep super, and the food super is a medium depth. I would remove the deep super from beneath the stack and place another medium super of combs or foundation above the presently occupied super. I would then be thankful that the bees have given you that much assistance in moving them into all medium sized equipment. There are numerous reasons for keeping your bees in all the same size equipment, and even more, that the equipment size is not heavy deep frames or supers.

>Why is it recommended to reverse hive bodies in the spring in many books?

It usuall breaks up the brood nest causing such disruption that it avoids swarming.

> Is this something that is not necessary?

No, it's not necessary.

Not sure of what your weather is like down there but if you aren't in a good flow I would make sure they aren't light on feed. Sounds like a ton of mouths to feed and more on the way, with not much stores on. If they are light, you could take the brood box off the bottom and put it on top, adding frames of honey to it. Or just add a super with honey to the top of your current configuration, over an excluder if you wanted.
