So went down to feed the bees this afternoon. Cold front moving in, in the 40s with breeze. As I finished putting in the syrup, I heard a sound like a growling or geiger counter. Went back to the house and grabbed my phone and did get a recording. Trying to figure out how to download but there is another video of the same thing online here.
I know something like this was posted before. Has anyone found out what it is?
Definitely not pipping or quacking.

Wow. Certainly never heard anything like that coming from a hive. I figured it may be some other critter in the colony but after recording it several different times that doesn't seem to be it. Interesting.

On a secondary note. Your top bar hive sure reminded me why I don't miss mine. lol

Maybe a tree frog under the bottom of the hive? Just guessing.

Still trying to upload my sound recording. It sounded a lot like the video above. It is not contraction as I use apimaye. It was on and off and it was coming from a specific area. Very loud in the beginning. Glad someone else heard it.
