A swarm I caught a few weeks ago is looking like it's about to replace the queen that came with them. This colony came from a bee tree in my area, and I would really like to save the old queen for the genetics if possible. Any chance that I could save her if I made up a nuc and put her in there after they have the supercedure cells completed or is her fate doomed already? They had just started working on them yesterday when I looked in on them.

TIA

If you make a nuc with the queen you can save her for a limited period of time. The bees will continue to make supersedure cells but the queen may last a month or more. You should be able to get several nucs with queens from her. She will not live forever so you need to act now to save what genetics she may have.
