I wanted toi split my hive. I'm in a zone 7 and thought I may be able to split it in September and introduce a new queen.
I plan to take a few drawn frames from my existing hive and start it in a deep super with the entrance screened for a few days, pollen cakes and sugar syrup.
Is this a good idea or should I wait until spring?
