My overwintered first year top bar hive was thriving, so I decided to split it, and our weather has been fantastic since early March. I made the split and moved the mother hive to a new location on a friends property about 12-15 miles away. Both hives have a lot of entrance activity, and the bees are bringing in pollen. I was nervous about the move, but it went off without a hitch, just took some planning. Crossing my fingers!
BTW, the bees were very docile. I have never smoked them, but for my friends sake I lit it, (first time in the hive and it was his mother's, sentimental)
but they didn't need it at all. They were so calm, like they were expecting this. It was fun!
