I spilled a little vegetable oil down a frame today. Any recommendations on what I should do, if anything?

Thanks!!

What was on the frame?

Bees stuck on an oil-sprayed IPM board generally die, but at some level they need and can tolerate lipids (oil) and it is part of what they get from pollen. Somebody linked a FatBeeMan video a week or so back in which the guy fogs his bees with mineral oil for mite control ... sounds nutty but apparently they can tolerate even mineral oil in low enough doses. If it was enough to soak them, it will probably kill them. If its just a little on their feet they can probably clean it up.

The home grown cures for tracheal and varroa mites used to often consist of a paste of crisco shortening, maybe some sugar (plus the secret active ingredients). I dont think it will be a problem.

I wouldn't worry about it. After all some people use grease patties for mite control. A little spilled veggie oil won't hurt anything. Maybe the bees will use it to make a pollen salad. :lpf:
