Anything wrong with making a split out of a hive that is one deep and one small by setting the small onto a new site? Of course I'd be sure it has all the right ingredients.

A small what? What are you calling a small?

Mating nucs are small, but I don't know that I would try using one to start a colony.
Sorry, that wasn't very clear, was it? The hive is composed of one deep super (9 1/2, or so high) and one shallow (5 3/4, or so high) super. I'd like to simply move the shallow to a new spot and let those bees raise a new queen.
