I went to my small apiary today to put winter quilts on my hives and when I opened one hive there were about 40-50 small hive beetle all corraled together by the bees on the top of one frame. They moved very slowly and I was able to kill 75-80% of them.

Couple questions. 1) Should I be concerned that there are SHB in the hive this late in the year and 2) was that all of them in the hive? I think I know the answers but wanted to bounce this off everyone

As long as the hive has a decent cluster there is nothing to worry about. Honestly this time of the year small hive beetles can't do much damage due to lack of heat. I'd say there is more of them but what you saw was likely the bulk majority.
