There were small bugs, almost microscopic, all over the sides of 4 or 5 hives. They look like sugar ants, or something, but they are a reddish-brown color. I would term them some sort of mite. In fact, they remind me of the mites that get on birds. Does anyone knoww aht they are, and if they can cause me trouble? I sprayed the sides of the boxes with sugar syrup, and it seemed to kill them.

No. These things are almost microscopic. A friend suggested crazy raspberry ants. I am going to google those up.
