Saw pollen coming in here and there the other day here in NE Ohio. I put some patties on about a week and a half ago. Some of the colonies were a little low on population. Should I let them forage from here on out since something out there is providing pollen? Or supplement with patties anyway?

Feed patties as long as they take it. No compromise. If they start drying out and being ignored that’s when I would stop. Mine took 4x the pollen patties last year. That told me the pollen quality was lacking. Why? Drought. Listen to the bees. Have 40 pounds of ultra bee patties in reserve.

I am in agreement too. I just took out the rest of the patties I placed in the hives in Jan. Some hives had eaten it all, others only half. SHB were starting to go to town on the ones the bees were ignoring. Plenty of the good stuff coming in, lots of bee bread in the frames, BUT, I still have the dry sub feeder out, just in case.
