I have become very fond of the NWC honey bee I have slowly been converting my apiary of italians to nwc my experience with the nwc is they are a very dark in color bee and very gentle I recently got an order of queens from strachen apiaries most of these queens have performed well but 2 of them have been laying almost blonde bees much more bright than any italians I have worked with and they are also very mean however the queens are laying awesome brood patterns and the hives are doing well has anybody else had this experience should I call strachen and complain?:s

The "cordovan" morph is the result of a single recessive homozygous gene. It is more a marker of inbreeding (because it is double recessive) than of any racial type.

If you purchased a "mated Queen" then that is what you got so no complaints.

If you purchased a Queen that was supposed to be a certain color and of a certain disposition...not just your assumption that it would be...then you should notify the seller of the discrepancy.
