I was checking on my bees this afternoon and I saw alot of bees outside the hive box clustering on the porch and covering the face of the hive. Why are they doing this? They seemed to be calm but there were a large number of them outside after dark hanging to the box. Should I be concerned?

This is normal "bearding", a common means the bees have of cooling off and cooling the inside of the hive. They will do this in hot weather.

They need more room or ventilation. If there is enough space inside the hive then leave the cover open a little.
