I have a order for 2 packages and they sent me a email stating that their some of the package shipments were sprayed and killed by a shipping company employee killing most of the packages that they shipped early this month that is causing some of the orders to be delayed :( I have 2 packages on order but they are not due till the last week in May so hopefully they will have caught up and I will get mine on time.

what company did you order from?
From the Beeweaver 'Package Bees' page:

We are now shipping our packages exclusively through UPS Next Day Air.

USPS gets beat up in some threads in comparison to UPS with regards to shipping bees. But the truth is both carriers screw up on occasion and kill bees.
And people wonder why it is that there are more and more companies that will not ship bees at all... With screw ups like this, it wouldn't pay to ship..
Am I the only one wondering why the employee sprayed the bees?! Why would they do this and what happened to him. If it was done purposely, I would hope they have joined the

ranks of the unemployed.
The email from beeweaver didnt go into specifics of the incident so it may have been a malicous incident or a mistake due to perhaps a package breaking open and they paniced

Isn't it obvious? They are stinging insects! Who wouldn't spray them! (that's how normal people think...)

And if there is one thing I have learned from my years of beekeeping and talking with other beeks, beekeepers ain't normal people!
EEEEeeeeeeekkk! There's bees in some a the boxes... There's bees in some a the boxes!... NOT ON MY WATCH! EEEeeeeeekk! (not sure how to spell a proper scream)

Get me the lysol!... Get me something I can spray...

Die! Die bees DIE!...

i hope whatever this customer was trying to ship is still ok! I wonder why they were using screen boxes in the first place... EEEeeeeewwww!

I'm gonna feel creepy crawly all day! They shoulda jus used regular boxes to ship like everyone else, those bees wouldn't a gotten in there! I guess that'l teach em! I hope they appreciate what a dedicated worker I is! Not just anybody woulda risk they life to kill those bees like I did!...

Look, is that a spida? I think I just got one squirt left! We is gonna need another can o this stuff! Call Jimmy and get another can o this stuff comin fass!
Bees in packages seem to attract 'hitchhikers' that then cling to the OUTSIDE of the screen. Regardless of whether the hitchhiker bees originally were in the package or are simply random bees that that got attracted to the package, if some of those hitchhikers started flying inside a UPS facility, I can see how someone could escalate the problem into a wholesale application of some Raid.
I've gotten calls from the post office that there was a package of bees there for me and they were escaping. It was just one or two bees on the outside. But they had put them in a canvas bag, on their side on the dock outside in the sun. They were dead when I got there. I'm bet Rader is right, someone thought they were getting out, when actually some lost bee (probably from a semi truckload of bees) smelled the Nasonov and latched onto the package...
That's what I was thinking - "There are bees on the OUTSIDE! I will just spray them a little bit... that should be all right...." Makes me thankful for my local post office, where they are obviously afraid of them (they call me at 5:30 am telling me they have arrived, and could I come before they open and take them away please) but when I get there they are always in a shady but sheltered spot.
