why would this be surprizing? you get them with package bees.
SHB with swarm
I have read about SHB being with swarms, or at least I think I have, but I saw it first hand today. I guess the beetles take flight with the bees when they leave a colony. I was amazed that they actually did that, but a friend of mine caught one of his own swarms today and I saw a SHB crawling around on his tractor bucket with the bees as they were going in the hive. The beetle didn't survive.....

Package bees don't fly to the package. They get shaken, along with SHB into a box. The SHB flew with the bees to the tree I suppose.
