I have been using some shallow frames made back in the 1970s but new and now I have added some new frames to the lot. These old frames have tappered ears and hang above the bottom of the box. The new frame ears are not tappered and not as thick so when the frame sits on the box ledge they hang below the box a good 1/16th. If old and new are used above each other the bee space is less than 1/4 as far as I can tell. Is this the way the new frames are suppose to be?

Not sure on your old frames but have noticed that some newer frames have a thicker more substantial bottom bar. Just a guess on my part, not really sure.

I have a mix of frames and bodies from different manufacturers and time periods, and it can mess up the bee space. All you can do is try to put similar frames in the same body.
