Anyone ever try copper screen wedged in about 1/2 way on the entrance to keep out SHB, moths, vermin but allows bees to in/out and have pretty well full ventilation from the entrance ? May even wedge down to a hand width instead of 1/2. I'm kinda wondering if the girls will just put there propolis on it and seal it off ?

Do you mean across the whole entrance?If you use #4 sized screen, you are going to knock the pollen off the workers and trap the queen and drones inside the hive.
Not the whole entrance just about 1/2 to 3/4 with screen door mesh. Just for ventilation and to stop the SHB but leave the rest open .

SHB's can get in through #8 screen, so any opening larger than that will let in SHB.
