I have a single hive that has swarmed twice, each a week apart. How can this happen? Is this normal? I live in Denver and can only have two hives by city ordinance. Now I have three! I thought a hive would swarm about every two years, yet this hive, and it is the only hive I have, has swarmed two times in the last two weeks. Why did this happen?
Help!

this is VERY normal

what happens in the hive way before the first swarm is that the bees will make 12-20 queen cells -

before the first cell hatched out the first queen take flight with 40-60% of the bees - then about a week later or so the remaing cells start to emerge and they can either tare down and kill the other unhatched queen cells or they my swarm - so if you have a hive that swarmed that close to each time - you had a very packed hive and it needs attention on your part
