I installed a package into a single deep brood box with six or seven frames of drawn comb left over from a dead out last year. Checked on the queen after four days she was released. Checked in a week later and there was a good pattern of eggs, pollen and honey. Checked in a couple of weeks later no queen and no eggs. Called the supplier and they sent me a replacement queen the next day. I installed her right away. Checked on the hive four days later, the cage was empty, could not locate the queen. There was a mysterious clump of bees down below the slatted rack possibly balling the queen. I put the hive back together and will check again next week for eggs or brood to verify if she is alive and laying. If not I am not sure of my next move. I believe I have enough of a season still left if I order a replacement queen. But should I follow a different installing procedure?
