In my part of the US pine straw is the fuel of choice for smokers. It’s readily available, easy to light and makes a great cloud of smoke. The downside is that it contains creosote and that stuff accumulates on the inside and outside of the smoker. It is more than a cosmetic problem as over time (in my case a couple of times a year) that accumulation keeps the top from closing. Here is what I do.
