I have 4 langstoth hives. Two packages from last year, a split from packages and caught a late fall swarm. They all seem to be healthy. I opened them saturday 3/23/19 it was 60 and sunny in central illinois. Ive been feeding them fondant since feb. All of the hive have laying queens. One of the hives had 1 cell with 2 eggs and some were not perfect. That was the late swarm i caught. In all the hives they were cleaning cells and hive of dead bees. ( can you test the dead bees for mites?) Do you have to reduce hives down to one box? I have the supers on two now i put extracted honey frames in so they could clean them. They all had lots of stores left in boxes to pollen honey. Should i reduce them to 1 or 2 deeps?
