I installed bees on Tuesday, checked Thursday and all queens were released. I have entrance reduced down to 3/4x1". My question is when should the opening be opened up, and should it be opened all the way or partially? They seem to be bottlenecked at the entrance coming and going. Also I have screen bottom boards. I have them closed up right now, until they get more comfortable with their new home. When would be long enough if a wait to open it up?

If you are getting bottlenecked traffic at the entrance open it up to the next size bigger. With spring blooms starting up there will be very little risk of robbing right now.

Leave the tray in on your sbb. I would leave it it until they are built up nicely and the ambient temps are nice and warm at night. Maybe mid to late June.

Most bee trees have less entrance than that to come and go thru. With that gaping hole in the bottom, they certainly don't need more entrance for ventilation.
